MAUNA LANI RESORT COLLATERAL PACKAGE & REBRAND
When you arrive at Mauna Lani, you can’t help but smile and feel that sense of Ohana. But Mauna Lani is more than just another pretty luxury resort—it is a true experience. From its Malama Honu turtle rescue program, which has been releasing turtles back into the wild for over 30 years, to Kainalu, the hotel’s native Hawaiian led waterman adventure hot spot, relaxing on the beach is definitely not the only option at Mauna Lani.
The Look & feel
We thought deeply about the history and culture of the Island of Hawai’i when creating this new collateral. Central to each piece is the idea of piko. Piko, which literally translates to belly button, is a much bigger idea. It is the center of yourself, the place where life is given, a sense of renewel and rebirth. Each Mauna Lani piece has its own “piko”, so to speak, and many of the pieces are square to reinforce the idea of being centered. We were also inspired by Hawaiian kapa. These beautiful dyed cloth artworks depict stories or journeys and are covered in exquisite line work. The patterns and lines of kapa and tatoo art also inspired our work. Each piece is printed on French Paper Speckletone, lending texture and depth to every design.
Hand painted property map with cultural landmarks
I created a hand painted map that guides guest around the immediate Mauna Lani property, and the surrounding areas.
Guest Stationery — colorful artistic postcards
Each guest receives their own set of 5 unique postcards in their room as well as individual note sheets.
I had so much fun designing and rebranding the new Mauna Lani. We strived to create fun and unique moments for guests and bring a little history, culture, and island flair with it.
